Somerleyton is a picturesque village set on the edge of The Broads national park. The village is steeped in history which is centred on the Somerleyton Hall and its adjoining gardens and parkland. Originally built in the sixteenth century, the hall was remodelled by Samuel Peto in 1843 by Jon Thomas who is perhaps best known for his work on the houses of Parliament. At this time Peto also commissioned the village houses supporting the estate, along with the church and the primary school to follow the style of Quaker philanthropist John Scarlett’s garden village for workers near Bristol. Today, these protected cottages give the village a lovely feel.

There is plenty to do in the area, along with the Hall itself being a popular visitor attraction, there is The Duke’s Head gastro pub, and pretty walks through the area leading out to the Waveney Valley and the Herringfleet Windmill. Fritton lake which is over two miles long, is a popular destination with holiday cabins, a restaurant and various activities on offer. Boat hire to explore the broads is available at nearby St. Olaves. Great Yarmouth and Pleasure Wood Hills, both nearby, are great days out for those with Children. The stunning Heritage Coast with day trip destinations such as Southwold, Walbersick and Dunwich are in easy reach where there are lovely costal paths and nature and wildlife reserves. By Car the A12 is close by leading South towards London and Somerleyton has its own railway station, connecting to both Norwich and Lowestoft which offer services to London Liverpool Street.
