Successful first year for Winkworth Poringland

At the beginning of January 2018 Jamie Moore opened the doors to his new Winkworth office in the village of Poringland in South Norfolk. Having now been trading for just over a year, we caught up with him to see how his experience with Winkworth has been so far.

“I’m thrilled with how the year has gone so far as we have beaten our year one projected revenue by 60%”, comments Jamie. “I’m aware that there is always more that we can do, for example we started the business concentrating on sales alone, which I realised was risky in this market, but having established that side successfully we’ve just implemented a lettings team which is doing well and should hopefully double our income for 2019.

Being in his late twenties, Jamie is currently the youngest franchisee in the Winkworth network. Prior to joining the brand, he spent 12 years working for Countrywide in the Norfolk area, starting his property career as an office junior at the tender age of 16. Jamie climbed the ranks quickly, becoming a full-time negotiator within 18 months. He was awarded Countrywide’s top negotiator in England within three years and was their youngest branch manager in the country at the age of 21.

“There are a considerable number of people who relocate from London to Norfolk and I wanted to have direct contact with them,” continues Jamie. “With Winkworth being such an established and respected brand in the Capital, joining them as a franchisee allowed me to have this contact from day one.”

Jamie and his young family live in Poringland and love the area, so he believed that opening there rather than nearby central Norwich made perfect sense. With 107 agents currently operating in Norwich and only two established in Poringland this was a strategic move by Jamie. His aspiration to be the ‘go to agent’ in the area has paid dividends as he achieved this within the first six months of trading and has continued to be the leading local agent ever since.

“I realised that certain sellers, at a certain price range, would want coverage in London and operating locally just under my own name wouldn’t allow me to do this,” explains Jamie. “Being part of Winkworth allows me to offer my clients everything they would want when marketing their home. Also, with no existing Winkworth office in the Norfolk area, joining them allowed me the autonomy to create a fantastic reputation with a respected brand.”

Although Jamie already lives in and is well known in the area he operates, he has further cemented himself and his business in the local community by sponsoring seven different events in the last year, raising hundreds of pounds, and pushing awareness from his For Sale boards.

“We’ve only been trading for 13 months, but we have now trebled in size since we opened,” Jamie explains. “This growth is going to help the business to continue to succeed and allow us to do even more sales and lettings in 2019.”

“Jamie has had a fantastic first year of trading,” comments Gina Piper, Winkworth’s New Franchising Operations Manager. “It’s extremely encouraging that more and more millennials are contacting us wanting to join the Winkworth network and the ones that do are really doing well. It’s proof that with hard work and determination, age really is just a number.”
