The 2018 property market remained subdued surrounding the continued Brexit uncertainty however Winkworth as a group has stayed resilient against this, and as such the new franchising department has had another busy year.
The team have opened a total of 6 new offices this year; 5 of which are located in the country, and 1 in London.
New franchisees Richard Ward and Andrew Booker were the first to open in Banstead, Surrey in January 2018. Andrew comments “Winkworth were an obvious choice for us, encompassing great marketing and branding, strong market share and genuine access to London buyers. This is a great match for us and we look forward to our future with Winkworth.”
The next office to open was in Poringland, South Norfolk, under the management of the youngest new franchisee to join the Winkworth network, Jamie Moore. “We have a great support network with Winkworth, being connected to over 100 offices. Teamed with Winkworth’s established brand, reputation and marketing tools, this was a huge advantage to the service that we offer,” explains Jamie.
The third office opened in Brentford, West London, and was the only office to open in the Capital during the year. The office was opened by existing franchisee Sohail Janjuha who already owns the Winkworth Parsons Green, Fulham Palace Road, North Kensington and Chiswick offices.
Local businessman and new franchisee Sunny Kooner opened the Winkworth Northampton office in August, followed closely by the conversion of an existing independent agency to Winkworth in Fowey, Cornwall. Franchisee of Winkworth Fowey, David Elderkin comments, Cornwall, and Fowey in particular, are in increasingly high demand for people looking to move here for a change of lifestyle, and we felt that with Winkworth’s branding and London to Country link, we could further tap into that market of second and holiday home buyers to maximise our office’s potential.
At the beginning of December this year, Simon Barnes, existing franchisee of Winkworth Highcliffe in Dorset, purchased an existing independent agency in nearby Mudeford, converting it to Winkworth and opening his second Winkworth office.
The new franchising team have also sold 6 existing Winkworth offices to new management this year. Tooting in South London, Bow in North London and Bath in Somerset were sold to new franchisees, whereas Canterbury in the South East and Brighton in East Sussex were sold to the existing managers working in the offices. Chiswick, West London was sold to an existing neighbouring franchisee, Sohail when he expanded his portfolio.
Donna Pearson was the manager at Winkworth Canterbury and purchased the office in its entirety in February. “I was given the opportunity to join as a Partner in the original franchise four years ago, so making the decision to take the next step of buying the whole franchise seemed a great natural progression," she explains.
New franchisee Dominic Cocklin, who purchased the Bow office in May says, “I chose to own a franchise as it was the right time for me in my career progression and I was in the right place at the right time to take hold of the fabulous opportunity that I was presented with.”
The new franchising team predict a similar year in 2019 in terms of new office openings and office sales. If you would like to know more about any of the opportunities available in becoming a franchisee get in contact with the new franchising team for a confidential discussion.
