The silver tourist

Building and opening a new office in Salisbury is an exciting exercise which adsorbs most of my waking hours. Property is one of my great passions, so this is a labour of love, so to speak. However, as my friends headed north at the weekend to a river reminiscent of a Wiltshire chalk stream (it is so pretty) - a thought, at least, wondered what would be happening, without my own rod this year. Salmon fishing is, like the proverbial curates egg, good in parts. But it is how you define good, that truly determines the benefit of the trip. A successful sale or letting is always the desired result from a marketing campaign. Whereas, a weeks fishing is about the relaxation and being with nature and good company, as much as it is connecting with bars of silver fresh from the Atlantic. Either way, it is immensely enjoyable to immerse oneself in a river for a week and be part of the scenery that feeds the soul as much as it does the abundant wildlife. If water levels are not right, there is every chance that those silver tourists which all manner of feather and steel are being cast for from first light till last, will simply have swum through earlier or be hauled up downstream waiting for the next spate from rain on the hill. Fishing is not unlike agency, preparation and presentation and delivery are everything. Consistency and care are paramount. The best results are achieved through going the extra mile, not letting the line go slack and 'keeping your fly in the water' until the very end. Patience, dedication and the belief that only by doing everything right will the right result be achieved, are all similarities. Care of clients and their properties in equal measures is the ethos behind our new Property Management Solutions, launched today. Peace of mind is a relative thing but placing your property in an experienced, safe set of hands can be everything as a landlord. These hands built this office, they would, in other years be casting a fly rod this week. However, they are firmly and steady on the tiller of our property business in Salisbury and I wouldn't have it any other way. Matthew Hallett Winkworth Salisbury
