Salisbury, the lure of the London buyer

Winkworth was founded in 1835 by brothers Henry and Edward Winkworth. The original head office was on Curzon Street, Mayfair, with a country office in Brighton. The firm's main business involved selling residential property to an exclusive client list and letting houses in Mayfair to the landed gentry for 'the season'. Our head office has since moved around the corner toBerkeley Street and our business has become the largest agency brand in London, with 60 offices across the capital. Our country office network has grown, with Winkworth currently comprising 101 offices. 'The season' is in full flow and we have been blessed with some glorious weather. At Winkworth Salisbury, we have a healthy obsession with seasonality, as Anna Wintour said 'It's always about timing. If it's too soon, no one understands. If it's too late, everyone's forgotten.' And it is time to make hay, while the sun shines. Now is the time to be showing houses, between races, country house operas and the heady array of sporting and social fixtures occurring over the summer. It is also the time for professional photographers to be working long days, making sure everything is safely gathered in before the summer rains appear. Ours is a lovely profession and never more so that at this time of year. Mayflys still dance above rivers in a seemingly never-ending hatch, and meadows are adorned with wildflowers and long grasses serenading the breezes blowing everything on its way. Swallows dart like acrobatic angels, sipping from streams on the wing. And gardens are ablaze with colour, with roses and peonies showing themselves to be this year's best in bloom. We have worked well with London buyers this year, with many still searching for their perfect place in the country. Salisbury, whilst not necessarily within the magic circle of the hour's commute to London, does have some compelling benefits for that extra 22-36 minutes, including both boys and girls grammar schools. It is a wonderful city, with the bustling charter market at its beating heart. The beautiful cathedral is a constant companion to the skyline and a reminder of the majesty of a thriving city, steeped in history. Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2015 voted Salisbury the seventh best city to visit. It is small wonder the city scores so highly, given their description. http://www.lonelyplanet.com/england/southwest-england/salisbury The city is largely level and set out on a medieval grid system, perfect for the original transport plan ofShanks's pony. Culturally, there is a seemingly year round schedule of events and festivals. With the wonderful Cathedral at the center. Bill Bryson described the Cathedral and The Close rather well when he visited, in his Notes from a Small Island. Of the Cathedral he said "is the single most beautiful structure in England and the Close around it the most beautiful space." And he described Salisbury Museum as "The Salisbury Museum is outstanding and I urge you to go there at once". Our many years of experience in London stand us in good stead. We understand what those moving from the capital want, be it a weekend home or a move to the country. And we know how to sell country houses in London. In the last 180 years much has changed in London and Salisbury and yet, so much has remained the same. Good service and expertise, like gorgeous houses, never go out of style.
