Mist and a hurricane

The skies were thick with mist this morning which hung in the air like the first blanket of autumn. Yet, yesterday lunchtime the airspace above Salisbury was decorated by both a Supermarine Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane flying across the city. Whilst Salisbury has all the credentials of a cathedral city, it has the heart and soul of a busy market town, where there is always something going on and someone to discuss it with. From those who remember the regular sorties of wartime to the smallest child and anyone in between, the sound of Rolls Royce Merlin engines and the sight of these Battle of Britain winners stirs the soul. As September sets its course for mild temperatures and some lovely houses come to the market, our new business is becoming busier by the day. Working and living in such beautiful surroundings though, it is still important to take a moment to take stock of the day. Poppy's youthful exuberance is a great excuse for ten minutes around one of Salisbury's parks (for her third walk of the day). Dog walking introduces one to people and their canine companions on quite a different level but it is also an interesting barometer of an area. As with other parts of Salisbury, the people are so friendly, although I am not convinced they, or the visitors to our office aren't more interested in my gorgeous puppy than myself! After-all, as a cocker spaniel; friendly is all she knows. Matthew Hallett Winkworth Salisbury
