Country Life

As I celebrated my birthday yesterday, we launched a lovely brace of country houses in Country Life. This is always a special week in the country house calendar, as the onset of spring and the excitement of Cheltenham compete for our attention. Whilst I love steeple chase, this and the passing of another year are always overshadowed by the excitement of the first days of important sales. Living and working in London was hugely enjoyable but life as an agent in Salisbury is enormously satisfying; combining the best bits of a city with the most beautiful countryside. Salisbury offers an excellent choice of schools, a calendar full of events, festivals and celebrations and the perfect balance of living history. But Salisbury's historic buildings are not lifeless monuments, rather they are the beating heart of the city. Streets are set out in a medieval grid pattern and are full of independent shops, eateries and businesses. The villages around Salisbury sing too, with vibrant communities and some great facilities. Whilst a green city, with a good choice of parks and walks, the countryside around Salisbury is inspiring. With more than its fair share of lovely country pubs, old drovers paths and so much more. All within sight of the magnificent cathedral spire. Salisbury is described as a rural city. A definition of rural is; of, relating to, or characteristic of the country and thepeople who live in the country. This is perhaps also a good way of putting how Salisbury connects with it lovely landscape. Country life, with all that a historic, small, friendly city can offer. Winkworth Salisbury
