A Day in the life of an Estate Agent

Its 5:45am and the resident Blue Tit has been whistling its high pitched tremolo for what seems like an eternity directly outside of my window. Some would say waking up to the sound of this popular diminutive bird is a welcome rest bite from the mayhem of London living but it does begin to grate on one after a while. Anyway, I’m now wide awake now and about to get stuck into the daily shot of rocket fuel commonly known as Espresso. Then my phone rings and it’s Ed – super keen, already warming up and telling me to get a move on. To be fair it’s a crisp blue morning and Clapham Common is looking as beautiful as ever; we may grumble but it is an absolute privilege to have this on our doorsteps – both our Battersea and Clapham offices are a few minute’s walk away. For the past three months we have been training together, pushing one another hard and having far too many cosy early morning phone calls! This hasn’t helped our personal lives but we have been striving to claw back that youthful vigour and neither of us is prepared to back down. The competition is also very much apparent in our working relationship, where we work together to achieve the very best results for our clients yet there is definitely competition, which is certainly healthy ! You may be asking why we’re putting ourselves through all this torture, well it is in the aid of training for a ‘light fun run’ known as ‘The Tough Mudder’. For those of you that haven’t heard of this before, it consists of a 12 mile course including such leisurely delights as ice cold baths, barb wire fences, a minor degree of electrocution and lots of mud! By the time is published, it will all be over and hopefully we will both still be one piece just about. We cannot however take all the glory, this is a team effort and staff from our Battersea, Clapham, Kennington and Pimlico offices are competing also; a clear indication of great team spirit and competition (however even as I write this I am wondering why I agreed to sign up to it!). Let us hope being part of the most successful Winkworth Franchise translates to podium finishes! (wishful thinking) This team work and company ethos reflects in how we do business – with great enthusiasm, energy and vitality. All of which is very much required in this competitive but buoyant market which has seen us achieve record prices this year. These record breaking times have lead to many happy Vendors and Landlords and as one of the longest established agents in the local area we are always keen to give back in other ways where we can where we can. This year has included sponsoring the Bollingbroke Academy fun run, Belleville Arts, St Mary’s School, Marie Curie cancer care and the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment to name but a few. Now Summer is finally firmly on its way, the evenings are lighter, the sun seems to be shining and its a great time to ask us to value your property and rest assured there will be no sweaty running kit in sight when we see you!

Business benefits of a successful property market

The intrinsic links between property and business sectors are striking. It’s not just homeowners that want high houses prices in the UK. It’s also the Treasury, which came in receipt of an extra £1.1bn as a result of Stamp Duty surcharge yields; the banking sector as mortgage lending hits its highest rate (January ’17) since 2008; and British businesses, who rely on confidence micro and...
