Tooting offers a wide range of shops, supermarkets and independent stores. There are two indoor markets at Tooting Broadway that are extremely popular with the locals. They serve a variety of goods, including fresh produce. Local pub The Tram Shed holds occasional craft fairs offering handcrafted goodies and home baked treats.
Things to do
Tooting Bec Lido is the largest open-air swimming pool in the UK and open to the public from May to September. Become a member of the South London Swimming Club you can swim here all year round.
Burntwood Lane boasts a nine hole golf course and floodlit driving lane and is open to all. But, if you simply want to enjoy the outside then Tooting Bec Common offers plenty of space to get some exercise, walk the dog or even ride a horse.
Eating and drinking
Harrisons in Balham is part owned by Rick Stein, and Brinkley's Kitchen and Chez Bruce both offer high-end dining experiences. Lebanese lovers should head to Amal whilst fans of Indian food must visit Al Mirage. Chatkara is a perfect takeaway choice for those nights in at home.
The Tram Shed and Antelope are great pubs that attract a trendy crowd. Earlsfield's historic Leather Bottle pub has been at the same site for over three centuries. Neighbouring Balham also offers an array of pubs and bars. Head to either quirky, shabby chic The Balham Bowls Club or the smarter Exhibit.
