A little bit of history
Our area gets its name from its medieval owners, the Knights of the Order of St John of Jerusalem. It was one of the first suburbs to be built in London in the 19th Century, boasting large, spaced out villas rather than the more typical terrace housing. And although many of those homes were destroyed in World War II or replaced with new roads, flats and schools, some remain. The area has resolutely maintained its original charm and atmosphere, leading to St John's Wood being one of London's most sought-after areas. You can find out more about the history of St John's Wood at www.stjohnswood.org.uk .

According to Forbes Magazine, our NW8 postcode is the 5th most expensive in London and the UK.
Besides Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Marks and Spencers you'll also find regular markets at Church Street as well as the popular Swiss Cottage Farmers Market just up the road. Panzers on Circus Road is an excellent deli and greengrocers. We also love the exclusive boutiques on St John's Wood High Street.
Good browsing is to be had at Hanna Lee jewelers, The Showroom Gallery and the Ben Uri and Colman Cecilia galleries. And of course, the shops of Bond Street are but a short tube or taxi ride away.
AS BEFITS ONE OF LONDON'S MOST SOUGHT-AFTER AREAS, THERE ARE MANY FANTASTIC PLACES TO WINE AND DINE IN ST JOHN'S WOOD.
