We’re delighted to showcase the work of local Belsize Park resident Kat Vandal, a French mixed-media pop artist. Kat transforms toys and childhood nostalgia into vibrant, uplifting Happy Art installations, bringing joy, colour, and playfulness into our space.

Her creations, full of bold colours, glitter, and whimsical references to childhood, are designed to inspire and evoke happy memories. Many of her pieces repurpose old toys and personal items, blending nostalgia with sustainability — giving familiar objects a new life while keeping them environmentally friendly.

Kat explains:
"Although I don’t think happiness is contagious, a smile, a laugh, or a positive attitude can be infectious. If you stare long enough at a colourful piece of art, smiling at you and reminding you of happy times — your mood will lift a little. This is why I call it happy art."
The idea of upcycling childhood favourites began when Kat found herself struggling to part with her son’s outgrown clothes, toys, and drawings. Instead of letting them go, she discovered joy in transforming them into colourful works of art — celebrating his precious childhood memories while revisiting her own. This blend of nostalgia and creativity has become central to her practice, combining her passion for upcycling with the idea of preserving cherished moments in a way that sparks joy.

Kat’s style draws heavily from the Pop Art of the 80s and 90s, a period she grew up in, alongside the street art of London, where she has lived for most of her adult life.
She cites artists such as Vasarely, Kandinsky, Delaunay, Picasso, and Keith Haring as major inspirations, admiring their ability to create art that is playful, bold, and driven by creativity. Beyond the art world, Kat also finds inspiration in the everyday energy of the city: architecture, street art, and the rhythm of people moving through urban spaces.

We’re proud to feature Kat’s art in our office, and whether you’re buying, selling, letting, or simply curious, we invite you to pop by and enjoy a burst of creativity from one of our community’s own.
Her colourful pieces are also available to purchase — a wonderful opportunity to brighten your home with personality, joy, and a touch of Belsize Park creativity. As local estate agents, we’re committed to supporting the community not only by helping people find homes, but also by celebrating the incredible talent that makes our neighbourhood such a vibrant place to live.
