The perfect downsize

It has been said, 'if you want to make an easy job seem mighty hard, just keep putting off doing it'. And, in the context of downsizing this is entirely understandable. To leave a much-loved family home and move, away from so many memories is a difficult first step to take. However, five years ago, when the first iPad was released - it was equally difficult to imagine the seismic shift from PC's to tablets, that is the norm today. So much has changed for the better, yet much has stayed surprisingly the same. 'They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself' and this is the sea change that starts the process of moving from a large house to a manageable home. By identifying those parts of your property that you cannot live without, and those that you no longer have the need, your agent can build a picture of your perfect property - and make the perfect downsize a reality. Your sale too, must fit you like a glove, with the right price being paid by buyers able to offer you the patience required, for you find and secure a property that is entirely right for you. Part of the downsize is trying on lots of different scenarios for size. Many successful property purchases are quite different from the original brief and the right home will be sourced through a series of styles, locations and designs. 'Time spent in reconnaissance is seldom wasted.' This month, we are completing on a number of successful, happy downsizes and we have more happening over the course of the summer. In my career, I have been privileged to act in the sale of many wonderful homes and gardens. In the words of perhaps my favourite garden designer, Gertrude Jekyll; 'What is one to say about June, the time of perfect young summer, the fulfillment of the promise of the earlier months, and with as yet no sign to remind one that its fresh young beauty will ever fade.' If you would like to discuss how we can make your perfect downsize a reality this summer, please contact us for a confidential consultation. Winkworth Salisbury
