The 2017 Tour de France is shaping up to be another British-dominated event...
Team Sky’s Geraint Thomas won the first-stage time trial in Dusseldorf and then retained the yellow jersey for another two days. Then, during Stage 5 Chris Froome took the yellow jersey, which he retained for another six days, losing it to Fabio Aru after he ran out of steam during the brutal final climb of the 214.5 km Stage 12 between Pau and Peyragudes in the Pyrenees.
This year the tour started in Germany before winding through Belgium and then France, snaking through the eastern region of Alsace and Lorraine before entering the Alps. It then transferred to the Dordogne, from where it twisted and turned around Southern France and the Pyrenees.
Next week it is due to pass through some of France’s most stunning countryside including around Valence and Grenoble before heading south towards Provence.
Then, after an individual time trial day in Marseilles, the carnival moves to Paris for the finale including the now famous circuits of the Champs-Elysees.
If you’ve been following the coverage on ITV and have been admiring the countryside as the riders flash by, then we’ve tracked down some of the amazing properties Winkworth has to offers near this year’s route.
