Is estate agency for you?

The UK property industry generates billions of pounds for the country’s economy every year and a recent report has shown that the housing market is now worth nearly 10 times the Government’s entire income. With the total value of residential dwellings in the UK being valued at £5.9 trillion, the industry is a prosperous one, but is working in it for you?

It’s common knowledge that estate agency is a saturated industry with every high street in the country housing more than one. There are over 20,800 estate agency businesses in the UK and almost 160,000 people employed in the sector, making it extremely competitive, albeit very rewarding.

People’s homes are their greatest asset and largest investment, therefore to work in the estate agency industry having a personable character is key. Estate agency is largely a sales job, so having a persuasive nature whilst remaining polite, keeping calm under pressure and having empathy will all be an agent’s strongest skills.

The lettings industry in agency can be very fast paced and is a heavy numbers game so being organised, planned and prepared will aid the everyday tasks. Selling property, although generating larger fees, is a longer process with an average property in the UK taking 91 days to sell, therefore having patience and persistent character traits are important.
