An eventful week

Poppy has her first birthday at weekend. It is hard to believe we collected her a year ago. We had a lovely days shooting in the sunshine earlier this week and Poppy performed so well, her genes filling in any gaps in my training, demonstrating good breeding, like a statue carved from a lump of marble, is already there - we simply take off the rough edges to reveal it. The cocker experts who bread Poppy and trained her champion relatives were also at the shoot. Having trained her and worked Poppy on one other day this season, I was hopeful if feeling a little apprehensive in the auspicious company of so many field trail champions. Needless to say, I needn't have worried; she was brilliant, with a fine nose, a steady nature and gentle determined retrieves. This week has also seen some wonderful marketing for the lovely property on New Street, with articles in the Sunday Times, Country Life and The Times. The fine photograph of the outlook from the drawing room features another lovely dog. So many of my clients' houses are graced with canine companions, they feel all the more homely for it. Just as a country house kitchen at this time of year would feel out of place without an Aga, so do such houses without a woofer or two. As we prepare for another busy weekend, there will be a particular roast potato(or two) with Poppy's name on it on Sunday. Not only is she my companion on a peg, she has been my partner throughout creating this business and the office would not be the same without her.
