Considered going into business with your other half?

Winkworth is known for being a family business; established in 1835 by Henry Winkworth and his family, today it is run by the Agace family. Simon Agace, our non-executive chairman, bought the business four decades ago and it is now headed up by his son Dominic, our current CEO.

Many of the Winkworth offices are also owned and operated by families; brothers and sisters, parents and their children, and in some cases husband and wives.

Claire and Jon McGrath have just opened Winkworth Surbiton and have worked together for many years in their native Australia. "Communication is better when you work together and you can understand what your partner is talking about. There is an appreciation for what each other contributes and a mutual understanding of workload and stress levels! Organisation is also easier - we know which of us is picking up the kids - although working together we do get to spend more time alone without them!"

Narendra and Pinki Gandhi own two Winkworth offices in West London and have been franchisees since 2013. "We decided to go into business with Winkworth together as we knew the chemistry was right and there were less chances of 'falling out' than with a more traditional 'business partner'. We jointly make decisions that influence our domestic life and our future, and we can juggle the business and the children more easily. I suppose the only down side is that you can often bring your work home!"

Simon and Lisa Jacobs opened Winkworth Devizes in 2011 and expanded into Marlborough with a second office in 2014. "We had bad experiences with two previous business partners prior to joining Winkworth, therefore we decided to just do it together. The main benefit of working with your marital partner is that you have complete trust in each other. It also helps that we can share the responsibility of juggling the business and our family equally."
