Getting started...

After graduating Oxford Brookes the idea of the next phase in life of searching for a job was daunting. Always wanting to pursue a career in property I knew London was where I must head in order to kickstart my career. Finding jobs has never been an easy task as recent history dictates, also the added annoyance of the global pandemic lead to a lot of “in a normal year it would be a yes” answers. When first sending my CV into Winkworth the response was almost immediate, Jamie was in direct contact with me and it wasn’t as if he was trying to fit me to a role, almost that he was fitting a role to me. Once a position that was available came up as promised Jamie was straight back to me. This further put me in touch with Max White, again Winkworth showed a great interest in bringing me into the team, and describing the role I would be undertaking. Describing the role with enthusiasm and selling the team that I would be working in was one of the key reasons I joined.

What are Winkworth offices looking for in a CV?

Your CV will be your chance to impress one of our Winkworth offices. Think carefully about what you do and do not put on your. Here are some simple tips to make your CV stand out.

CV tips:

  1. Tip

Attention to Detail - Remember you never get a second chance to make a first impression, therefore your CV needs to reflect who you are as an employee. Attention to detail is critical and therefore always make sure there are no spelling or grammatical errors. If in doubt get a friend or family member to check it over before you send it.

  2. Tip

Keep It Professional - Similarly, make sure to choose a layout and format that reflects the job you’re applying for. Keep colors to a neutral color palette and choose a sensible font that is easy to read.

  3. Tip

Be Concise - It’s tempting to try and include as much information as possible in you CV, in the hope that it will really showcase how accomplished you are. However the key is to be concise and really focus on the key information that the employer is going to want to know. We recommend to keeping it to 2 pages long, that should give you enough space to highlight your most relevant experience.

  4. Tip

Make It Bespoke - Anyone can send the same document over and over again, however it shows a candidate is serious about a job opportunity when their CV is tailored to a specific role and company. Taking that extra time to do so can really pay off in the long run.

Interview tips?

Now that your CV is looking great and you've got yourself an interview, here are some of out top tips for impressing our agents

Interview tips:

  1. Tip

Fail To Prepare, Prepare To… - Prior to an interview make sure to research the role you are applying for as well as the company itself. I would even go so far as to research the person interviewing you. It shows that you have prepared for the meeting and that you care, and that’s an important trait in a future employee.

  2. Tip

First Impressions - To be on time is to be 5 minutes early! Don’t turn up in a rush, or worse late, it sets the tone for the whole interview. Similarly make sure to dress for the job you’re applying for, it’s always better to be over-dressed than under-dressed. If unsure go with your smartest outfit option.

  3. Tip

Be Your Biggest Advocate - Don’t forget to sell yourself, answer questions in a way which highlight your best attributes and really showcases your experience and why you’re perfect for the role.

  4. Tip

Do You Have Any Questions? - Always prepare at least two questions to ask, it gives you an opportunity to find out more about the company / team / employer which will help you decide if it is a place you would like to work.
