Women in Franchising

This time last year the ONS stated that self-employment in the UK was at its highest since records began 40 years ago...

The number of self-employed people has risen by 650,000 since 2008 and now stands at 4.5 million. Historically, women have made up just over a quarter of self-employed people, but since 2008 have made up 58% of the newly self-employed, with this figure rising to 70% during 2014.

The BFA/Natwest survey recently revealed that women account for just 23% of franchisees in the UK, and in the last two years only 17% of new franchisees were female.

Ric fits the role to work around her busy lifestyle. Having two very young children means that the flexibility of her working day is perfect. “Having my emails and taking calls on my work phone means that I can be flexible whilst keeping work continuity. There is a good back up in the office to support this.”

Ric advises listening to people as the most important attribute when starting in agency. “Treat them how you would like to be treated!” “If you want to run a Winkworth Franchise, one of the most important elements is your staff. Employ great people and look after them, as the longevity really benefits everyone.”
