Q&A with industry veteran Mike Stoop

Industry veteran Mike Stoop has returned to Winkworth as Business Consultant. After 25 years away from the brand and as a die-hard ‘Fulhamer’ we caught up with him…

Most memorable Winkworth moment?

When I signed the first Winkworth franchise agreement in July 1981!

Favourite Parsons Green watering hole?

It has to be the Sloany Pony (The White Horse for all none locals!) although I do feel very old when I go in there now!

What do you think has changed the most in the industry since you’ve been in it?

Technology has changed the business to a degree I never dreamt of when I bought my first computer for the Fulham office in 1982!

Hobbies?

Golf, Cricket, Tennis, Shooting, Cycling.

Favourite London borough to work in and why?

Fulham! I have lived in Fulham on and off since November 1974. It became a haven for young families in the early 80’s. A membership of The Hurlingham Club in those days was essential as it was where the ‘hub’ of young Fulhamers congregated both socially and sports wise. Fulham is still a fantastic place to work with its excellent transport links, bars, pubs and restaurants. The development of the Sands End area has created a more modern SW6, and it great to see the opportunities for the first time buyer as well.

If you had anywhere in the world that you could own a property – where would it be and why?

It would have to be London. I have been tempted by Greece, France & Portugal but, the capital growth and yields available in London outweigh the romantic lure of the sunny Mediterranean! There is no other City in the world, in my opinion that compares to the multicultural allure of London.
