Our guide to what's on in our local area this month and some of the best pools on offer!
As is often the case with the infamous British summertime, we have begged and pleaded for a little bit of sunshine but as soon as it arrives the whole country tends to quite literally melt.
Temperatures in our capital are expected to push 30C over the next week and Londoner’s will no doubt be gasping for a cool cider and shady tree!
I think it’s safe to say the last thing we want to do is drag ourselves from the office into the even hotter world of the Underground come 6 o'clock, so much more enticing to be dive head first into a nice refreshing swimming pool. We’ve gathered our top picks of swimming pools to embrace (or escape) the London sun.
From what’s on the market in Knightsbridge and Chelsea, to Hotel oasis’ and secret spots in the city, we celebrate the best in the bunch!
After a long day we would love to cool off in this underground pool, the best part being you wouldn’t even have to leave your home as it could be yours to let. We love the glass ceiling with views up to the patio.
Located within a listed neo-gothic former NHS hospital in Chelsea, Rose Square has become internationally acclaimed as one of ‘the world’s finest rated residential schemes.’ Not only would we love to live here, what’s more, we can’t think of a better way to start our mornings than with a few laps of this perfect leisure pool.
3. The Berkley, SW1X
With its incredible views of Hyde Park, the outdoor, rooftop pool at this luxury Knightsbridge hotel has always been a popular swimming spot in the capital for those in the know. This retractable rooftop pool is the stuff of dreams, with iridescent white and gold mosaic tiling and a nearby secret garden full of scented blooms. On the 7th floor of the hotel, it boosts views over Hyde Park but entrance will set you back an eye-watering £150 per person, per day.
4. The Rembrandt, SW7
There is little not to love about The Rembrandt's showpiece swimming pool, heated to a balmy 32°C. Access to the hotel's Aquilla Health and Fitness spa comes in bundles, starting from £150 for a 10-day pass. This includes the sauna, steam bath, gym and any exercise classes as well as the pool.
5. The Hampstead Ponds, NW3
If you are feeling a little more adventurous, take a dip into the wilderness in the beautiful ponds in Hampstead Heath. The Ponds Open-air swimming is internationally famous on the Heath with the Ladies' Pond, the Men's Pond, the Mixed Pond and the Parliament Hill Lido. The Ladies' and Men's Ponds are unique in the United Kingdom in being the only life-guarded open-water swimming facilities open to the public every day of the year.
6. The Serpentine Lido, W2
The Serpentine Lido and its accompanying paddling pool are great for both adults and children. It is open seven days a week from 1 June to 12 September.
Alongside the Serpentine Lido is the Lido Cafe Bar which has waterside tables and is the ideal place to enjoy a snack, meal or a glass of wine. The Serpentine Swimming Club is the oldest swimming club in Britain and is only £4.80 for a full day of the water. Alternatively, splash out on a sunlounger and spend the day soaking up the sun!
