'Cold Start' - a new Winkworth office

The Winkworth brand is strong and we are proud to be representing it. It is a huge thrill for me, after only a few years in business on my own, to be pitching for houses against other top national agents and more importantly, winning those instructions. I know that I could never have achieved this in this time frame had I gone out under my own name.

Simon and Lisa Jacobs – Winkworth Devizes

“I was looking to start my own Agency, having worked for large Nationals for ten years and recognising that I wanted both equity and autonomy.

Realising I was getting to an age when it was now or never, we sorted the finances out by downsizing from our family home to release capital and found A2 premises in the middle of Devizes, perfect for an agency. We very quickly realised however, that if we were going to really make it work our marketing budget was going to need to be huge. I picked up a copy of The Property Drum and saw the Winkworth Franchising advertisement. This was my lightbulb moment and I contacted them immediately.

Here was an opportunity to open with a nationally recognised name and with the help and support of the Franchising team, I knew we stood a much better chance of success. Lisa and I formed a joint partnership and run the business together – she works from home and concentrates on the books, the various body memberships and Company Secretarial role, which works for her around the children. I run the office and the sales team in Devizes.

The Winkworth brand is strong and we are proud to be representing it.

We opened our doors in June 2011 – the only national agent in Devizes. Since then the business has gone from strength to strength, establishing a good foothold in the local market. Winkworth allow us to run the business pretty much as we want, we make our own business decisions whilst benefitting from their support and advice whenever needed.

Our staff enjoy excellent in-house training courses, which keep them focussed, professional and motivated, and we are able to offer excellent marketing opportunities for our clients. The Winkworth brand is strong and we are proud to be representing it. It is a huge thrill for me, after only a few years in business on my own, to be pitching for houses against other top national agents and more importantly, winning those instructions. I know that I could never have achieved this in this time frame had I gone out under my own name.

We have now opened our second office under the Winkworth brand in Marlborough. This will enable us to cover this side of the county much more effectively and to be able to move further north too. We are very excited by our new team who are experienced and well placed to bring the Winkworth service to this part of Wiltshire.”
