April Fools

Chaucer mentions it in The Nun’s Priest’s Tale and the Romans celebrated it with their festival of Hilaria. I am not sure that April Fools jokes are entirely appropriate when you are dealing with clients who sometimes find themselves in stressful situations and up against deadlines whilst dealing with what may be their biggest asset.

However, a bit of levity, if skilfully and tactfully directed can sometimes help put a bit of perspective into tricky situations.

We have had more than our fair share of jokers in this office over the years. Some were buyers, some sellers and some may even have been employees. This is all to be expected as this business really is, when you boil it down, a people business. After all, humour is a large part of humanity. Being able to see things in perspective, prioritise, realise what is important to the clients, and deal with it is what makes us good at what we do.

April is turning to May and the recent tax changes have altered buyers enthusiasm to offer. The good news is that anyone starting to look now is psychologically pre-disposed to operate in this market and fully aware of the buyer’s costs of transaction. Pricing is therefore the absolute key to getting interest, offers and a successful sale.

April and May are important months for us and there is strong evidence of good underlying support, especially in the domestic market.

If you don’t want to be taken for an April Fool, please come and speak to us at the Clerkenwell & City office. I can promise good honest advice. Seriously.

Winter isn’t over yet.  Just when we thought Spring was around the corner, the ‘Beast from the East’ delayed it for a week or so.
