Why franchising works for me - Winkworth Salisbury

Matthew Hallett joined the Winkworth Network in summer 2014 when he opened his first office in the medieval cathedral city of Salisbury.

Matthew has been in agency for over 30 years now and has worked both in London and the country, where he went on to develop a specialism in country houses and estates. Prior to joining Winkworth he was made Partner at Strutt and Parker before doing the same role at Carter Jonas. Here he explains why Winkworth and the franchise route were natural choices for him.

"Winkworth has an excellent reputation in the industry and joining the brand at this stage in my career was an obvious move for me to make.

One of the best things about being part of a franchised network is the tremendous back up of the support services offered by the head office, especially the Marketing and IT departments. Marketing offer great access to online content and social media platforms for all the Winkworth offices to use, and update the marketing portal regularly with new materials to aid touting for new business. The constant innovation by the IT department to keep the network ahead of the curve and able to compete with the online agents is also second to none, and something I simply wouldn"t have been able to give time or expenditure to should I have set up on my own.

Winkworth is without a doubt the best franchise network. Franchising are supportive, helpful and innovative.

Opening a cold start office in Salisbury has been a rewarding challenge. I found the most beautiful premises with a stunning Jacobean ceiling, but obtaining change of use for the listed building took a lot longer than I had originally envisaged! It was worth the wait though and I would suggest to new franchisees that you take the time to ensure you get the right premises for you and the brand."

Matthew's advice to anyone looking to join the Winkworth network as a business owner would be that "Preparation is key but so is perspiration. You need a good dose of self-belief but you must be willing to work hard. Shout about your successes and stick to the core principles of the brand; quality service for quality houses by quality agents. Above all, be yourself."
