Calne is a small market town surrounded by open countryside ideal for walking and riding. Golf courses locally include the North Wilts and Bowood (which has a very good spa). There is also fishing at nearby Blackland Lakes.

The town has very good facilities for everyday needs including a large Sainsburys, and Tesco, library and a variety of smaller and independent shops and boutiques. The market town of Devizes is nine miles away and has a range of supermarkets, restaurants and amenities including a cinema and leisure centre. Marlborough is just over thirteen miles to the east, past the heritage site of Avebury and is home to Waitrose and another range of good shops and restaurants.

There are mainline stations at Chippenham and Pewsey (Paddington 75 mins) and the M4 J15 motorway is easily accessible (10 miles).
