Nick Goble, franchisee of Winkworth Battersea, Clapham, Pimlico and Kennington Lettings, is due to climb the highest mountain in Europe, Mont Blanc, this June, to raise funds and awareness for the mental health challenges faced by veterans today.
Having trained since November, Nick plans to take the highly challenging ‘Gonella Route’ from the Italian side of the mountain, climbing 15,777 feet (or 4808m) over two to three days, and is expecting to reach the summit on 17th or 18th June.
100% of funds raised from this challenge will go directly to helping veterans of the Queen’s Regiment, Nick’s former regiment of the British Army.
Nick says: “In 2018, it was reported that over 71 British veterans tragically took their lives, including five brave veterans in one torrid week alone. These figures do vary as it’s difficult to truly record, but I think everyone can agree that if it were just one veteran it would be one too many.
“I did say about 10 years ago that I would not be rattling the tin again asking for donations, but I now feel compelled to dust off the collection tin for a one-off and final fundraising event. The mental health challenge our brave veterans face today is immense and they need as much support as we can offer them.”
