Friends Jon Hallett, Michael Foldvari and James Hathaway opened the Winkworth Reading office in October 2014 and have gone from strength to strength ever since.
With a combined industry experience of over 40 years, the majority of which spent in Reading, their local knowledge really is second to none.
Jon explains his passion for the area: “I’ve worked here since 1988, had my own business here for 19 years and wouldn’t want to work anywhere else. Reading’s a fantastic place to live with plenty to do, excellent transport links, 25 minutes to London Paddington, close to Heathrow yet surrounded by lovely countryside. It is also an hour to the south coast and offers fantastic shopping, restaurant and nightlife. The population is upwardly mobile and I expect house prices to rise significantly.”
The chaps have had an extremely positive couple of years, growing the team from the three of them to eight members of staff today. They have become one of Winkworth’s strongest lettings offices throughout the network, achieving a staggering 600 lets in the first 24 months of trading.
Being part of the Winkworth network really is a combination of two things; the brand, and the local knowledge and connections of the franchisees. The Reading team have noticed, upon doing their research, that 30% of their overall business comes from walk ins and an affiliation with the Winkworth brand, whilst 70% has come from their historical clients throughout their time working in the area.

Michael adds, “Winkworth offers the best of both worlds - a recognised brand that is locally owned. We don’t have a typical franchise feel. With the fantastic network of country offices and strong connections with London, it’s a perfect fit.”
With a positive outlook for the future, James also explains, “We are two years in since opening Winkworth in Reading and are extremely pleased with our progress. The brand has enabled us to hit the ground running and has brought in business that we would not have won without it and has also given our former clients the confidence to take the leap and move away from their pre-existing agents, which may well not have happened had we opened without the backing of an established brand. We are now the in the top three agents in Reading based on our Lettings business and into the top 10 on Sales, this is out of over 100 hundred agents covering the Reading area. In two years we have agreed over 600 lets and tied up over 100 sales. In the coming years we would like to become number one locally which with the backing of Winkworth we believe is very achievable. We are considering future offices in the coming years but our main focus is to become number one in the area we know best; Reading.”
