Easter holidays end with a bang!

Suddenly the traffic is back, the parking spaces are taken and worst of all we have to queue again for our morning Starbucks. For the last two weeks it seems as if everyone from St Albans has jetted off to the sun (lucky people!) leaving the city ghost-town like with only bored market stall holders and puzzled estate agents wondering where everyone has gone. We could have told them - it happens every year! With the proximity of Luton making a quick trip to the sun or to the last of the snow an easyjet two hour hop away, and with the school holidays in full swing - the mass migration in April came earlier this year but now the good news is everyone is back! Buyers are suddenly waking up to the fact that there are some amazing mortgage deals available and finance has never been cheaper. The relaxation of some of the more stringent tests from last year's mortgage market review has helped- and the 'phones areringing again, tomorrows open days are booking fast andall is well with the world. Welcome back, normality, for a week or so there,. we missed you!

Still feels like 1992!

There is ONE HUGE difference this time: political stability is 'in' and this government is here to stay for 5 years. A little known change of wording in the 'Fixed term parliament act 2011' means...

Feels Like - 1992 all over again!

For those of you still in short trousers (or skirts) in 1992 let me enlighten you..The UK economy had been in recession for years, fiscal policy hadn't worked , Labour had lurched to the left and avuncular John Major was fighting an election in May. I'd been trading about 2 years by this stage and couldn't understand why we were so busy with nothing at...

Changing face of Estate Agency

Just a normal Saturday in the office - except there's no 'office' for mein St Albanstoday! Saturdays used to be spent taking enquiries from buyers and sellers in our High Street office and of course showing buyers around possible purchases. Since the transition from a one off local agent to 'Winkworth', I find myself increasingly adapting my work practises to suit the new client base:...
