BBC 2's 'The Honourable Woman' and Coombe Moor House

This Thursday night sees the premiere of BBC 2’s seven-part political thriller ‘The Honourable Woman’. The series stars Maggie Gyllenhaal as Nessa Stein an Anglo-Israeli telecommunications magnate who has recently been awarded a lifetime peerage in Westminster. However rapidly unfolding events in the West Bank force Nessa to come to terms with the true nature of the company her father created and brings her under the close scrutiny of ageing spy Hugh Hayden-Hoyle (Stephen Rea, The Crying Game) and the intelligence services. The series has been written and directed by Hugo Blick (The Shadow Line) and weaves an international web of espionage and intrigue. Filming took place over a three month period in July 2013 in Whitehall, Westminster, Ramallah and the U.S. Blick’s choice of locations compliment an intense and gritty narrative, none more so than Stein’s quintessentially English country home, Coombe Moor House. The elegant 1920s property is located just off Wimbledon Common on the Coombe Hill estate and provides both seclusion and close proximity to central London. This luxurious home symbolises the success the Stein family have found through their enterprise but Nessa must confront the human cost at which her wealth has been accrued.
