Tim Winney, franchisee of Winkworth Highcliffe, gives his view on why Christchurch is the ideal destination for sailing enthusiasts.

“Christchurch Harbour is totally unspoilt and beautifully sheltered, so it’s ideal for beginners and dingy sailors.  However, it also makes an excellent base for coastal cruising across to the Channel Islands or Cherbourg, France or along the coast into The Solent and the Isle of Wight. You can also go around Hengistbury Head into Bournemouth Bay which gives access to Poole Harbour and Dorset Heritage Coast. In Christchurch Harbour there are three local sailing clubs catering for all types of sailors.

There is a whole selection of properties from Waterside townhouse at £645,000, with breathtaking views of Christchurch Harbour and immediate access to the water via a communal slip way and use of private dingy park.  At the other end of the scale is Mudeford House at £5.75m, with private mooring and dock at the foot of the garden giving direct water access into the inner harbour.  Iridium, at £1.35m, comes with a floating mooring in the harbour. For boating there are various moorings available in the harbour with waiting lists for the more accessible moorings.  There are also a number of local boat yards who have private moorings available, but again are most likely subject to waiting lists.

Who sails here? There’s a strong local following and it is also a very popular destination for weekend or day sailors, being only 1.5-2 hours drive from London and the Home Counties and a fast train from London Waterloo to Christchurch”.
